Lumiere, the UK’s largest light festival will return to Durham, illuminating the city for the sixth time, bringing back a number of the most popular artworks and installations from the previous five festivals. More than 240,000 visitors have witnessed the stunning light displays.

Itinerary

Day 1 Morning departure for the journey north and to the hotel in Newton Aycliffe, Nr Durham for a three night stay.

Day 2 A morning excursion to Shildon where you will visit the National Railway Museum, also known as Locomotion. Learn of the amazing engineering feats in Durham, the world’s first railway town. Returning to the hotel for lunch. Mid-afternoon you travel to Durham where you can spend the rest of the afternoon and evening to enjoy the attractions and the amazing light festival.

Day 3 Today you will visit the ever-popular living museum of Beamish that gives you the opportunity to discover the amazing industrial heritage in the North of England. From the 1940s farm to the early 20th century Pit Village, you take a step back in time as you meet costumed characters. Catch a tram through The Town, a typical market town from the years leading up to the First World War.

Day 4 After breakfast, depart the hotel and commence the homeward journey.
