Day 1 Early morning departure to Dover for the ferry to Calais and on to Dijon for an overnight stop. (dinner not included).
Day 2 Continuing the journey into Italy arriving at the seaside resort of Marina de Pietrasanta in Versilia for a 7 night stay.
Day 3 Cooking class and Lucca – full day with guide. Visit a traditional farmhouse to learn how to handmake pasta, prepare a traditional sauce and local “crostini”. Enjoy your self-made Italian lunch together at the end of this funny hands-on morning! An interesting visit of the farmhouse follows, rounded off by wine and locally produced olive oil tasting. In the afternoon visit Lucca for a 2 hour leisurely guided walking tour. The birthplace of Puccini, also known as the city of 100 churches.
Day 4 Siena and Chianti Wine – full day with guide. This morning discover Siena, famous for the Piazza del Campo, the seashell-shaped square, on which the famous bareback horse race, the ‘Palio’ takes place each year. In the afternoon proceed into the Chianti Valley. This hilly landscape, interspersed with olive groves, cypresses, vineyards and palaces, seduces all visitors. A wine tasting with snack rounds off the day.
Day 5 Florence and central market – full day with guide. Today travel to Florence. Meet your guide and begin a leisurely walking tour in the famous central market of Florence. After admire the Cathedral with the Campanile and Baptistery, and the Palazzo Vecchio, overlooking the Piazza della Signoria with the famous copy of Michelangelo’s Statue of David.
Day 6 Vinci and Lari – Europe’s smallest pasta company – full day with guide. Start the day with a visit to the medieval village of Vinci, named after its most famous son, Leonardo. Continue on to the picturesque village of Lari in the Pisan hills to visit Europe’s smallest and most authentic pasta factory, owned and run by the Martelli family since 1926. Learn all about this product as it is transformed from grain to the shop shelves.
Day 7 Day at leisure
Day 8 Pisa Today discover Pisa with a 2 hour leisurely walking tour with guide, taking in the impressive Cathedral, Baptistery and of course the famous Leaning Tower, Pisa’s signature building (admission extra, payable locally).
Day 9 Time to depart and return to Dijon for an overnight stop (dinner not included).
Day 10 Breakfast, then commence the homeward journey.
