Day 1 To Dover for the ferry to Calais an onwards to the Aachen area for the overnight stop. Glass of wine or beer included with dinner.
Day 2 Continuing our journey travelling along the banks of the River Rhine through the heart of the Rhine Valley with a stop in Rudesheim. You then continue to your overnight stop.
Day 3 Travelling through Germany and into Austria to Linz before boarding at around 4.00pm. Welcome cocktail and presentation of the crew. Dinner and evening on board.
Day 4 Vienna: Arrival early in the morning. Breakfast on board. Excursion of Schoenbrunn castle, summer residence of the imperial family and part of Vienna, imperial city and cradle of music. Back to the boat for lunch. Afternoon visit to the Hofburg, the Habsburg Palace houses the sumptuous imperial apartments. Back to the boat for dinner. Followed by a tour of Vienna by night. Departure of the boat during the night for Budapest.
Day 5 Budapest: Morning’s sailing. reaching Budapest after lunch. In the afternoon, you have a guided tour of Budapest, the belle époque city par excellence, the incarnation of the sharp contrast between twin cities divided by the Danube and united since 1872. You will discover: haughty Buda with its winding streets, its baroque palaces, its Turkish bath establishments and its royal palace. And bustling Pest, which offers a proud mixture of architectural styles. Back on board for dinner followed by an evening of “operetta music”on board. Overnight stopover.
Day 6 Budapest, the Puszta: After breakfast, departure by coach for the excursion to the Puszta. Also called the Great Plain, in the 19th century, this vast prairie was the Wild West of Hungary and immense herds of livestock grazed here under the watchful eye of the cowboys. You then enjoy a typical lunch from the region. After a full day return on board for the departure of the cruise at around 6.00pm. Dinner on board. Sailing at night.
Day 7 Bratislava: Morning’s sailing, reaching Bratislava at around noon. Lunch on board. In the afternoon, guided tour of Bratislava. Dominated to the north by the slopes of the southern point of the Small Carpathians, bathed by the Danube, Bratislava occupies a privileged geographical site. The charm of the Slovakian capital lies in its old city: splendid Baroque palaces, churches and pleasant squares. Back on board at the end of the afternoon and continuation of the cruise to DÜrnstein. Gala dinner on board, followed by dancing.
Day 8 Durnstein - Melk: Breakfast on board and arrival in DÜrnstein at around 9.00am, which you will explore with your hostess. The town, steeped in the legend of Richard the Lionheart, contains an astonishing abbey, glittering with light blue and white, which has one of the most beautiful Baroque bell towers in all Austria. Back on board for lunch and departure for Melk. Crossing the wonderful Wachau where Gothic ruins alternate with picturesque villages. The mildness of the climate here is conducive to wine and apricot production. Arrival in Melk at around 2.00pm, guided tour of the benedictine abbey of Melk. You will be able to admire the Baroque marble hall, library and abbey church. Back on board, dinner and continuation of the cruise to Linz.
Day 9 Linz: Arrival in Linz early in the morning. Breakfast on board. Disembarkation at 9.00am and join our coach travelling via Salzburg for a short visit then onto your overnight stop.
Day 10 Continue into France for a short visit to Reims before we check into our hotel for our last overnight. Glass of wine or beer included with dinner.
Day 11 Departing Reims after breakfast continue to Calais for the ferry crossing to Dover and home.
