Day 1 Morning departure for Dover and the ferry crossing to Calais and on to the Orleans area for an overnight stop.
Day 2 Today travel through the French countryside to the small village of Rocamadour for a stay of five nights. It is an important pilgrimage destination with a shrine to Madonna, which became famous for its healing powers. It is also famous because of the beautiful and dramatic setting.
Day 3 Day tour that will take you to the Gouffre de Padirac, a natural 75 metre chasm on the limestone plateau of the Causse de Gramat. Descend underground by lift, where at 103 metres below you will join a boat for a trip on the river, and a guided tour of the caves. The day tour continues to Collonges-la-Rouge a village of Renaissance houses built entirely of red sandstone, and Turenne a village dominated by the ruins of the original castle. You will return by way of Martel the town of seven towers, from the 12th century.
Day 4 Day tour along the ‘Vallee de la Dordogne’ in the area called the Pericord Noir, where you can admire the Chateaux of Belcastel and La Treyne. On arrival in Sarlat, one of the most famous towns in the region, you will have free time to explore through enchanting alleys with unique architectural heritage. After lunch you will continue to Roque Gageac for a cruise on the Dordogne River in a flat bottom boat, a type used in the Middle Ages for transporting goods. You will end the day with a visit to the village of Domme where we have included a return train ride for you to the village for some free time to explore or have refreshments.
Day 5 A free day to explore this medieval vertical village that overlooks the Alzou canyon. A visit to the Notre-Dame chapel is a must and for some wonderful views visit the Ramparts de Roc. We have arranged for you to enjoy wine tasting in the village.
Day 6 Three Valleys Tour: Drive through the Vers Valley following the River Lot to Saint Cirq La Popie. Perched on a cliff above the Lot it is one of the most beautiful villages in France. Return by way of the Cele Gorgeand the Chause de Gramat.
N.B Some of the excursions are physically demanding.
Day 7 Depart after breakfast for the return journey to the Orleans area for an overnight stop.
Day 8 After breakfast, depart the hotel and commence the homeward journey.
