Designed by Sir Charles Barry, architect of the Houses of Parliament and built in 1842, Highclere was the seat of the 5th Earl of Carnarvon who, with his colleague Howard Carter famously discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun and some of their findings are displayed here.
Now home to 8th Earl & Countess Carnarvon and surrounded by beautiful gardens, grounds and park designed by Capability Brown, this Jacobean style country home is now world famous as the setting for Downton Abbey.
Thanks to the series and motion picture released in 2019 around 90,000 people visit the stunning castle each year.
