With visits to the towns of Triberg and Wolfach, you will learn more about traditional skills and see the world’s largest cuckoo clock. You will also visit the city of Strasbourg and the beautiful town of Baden-Baden.

Itinerary

Day 1 Morning departure for the journey to Dover and the sea crossing to Calais, and onto Reims for your overnight stop.

Day 2 Today you will travel into Germany and to Zell am Harmersbach in the Black Forest for a five night stay.

Day 3 This morning you will start with a visit to Triberg, famous for Germany’s highest waterfalls, which have an overall drop of 163 metres over seven cascades and famed for its traditional wood carvings and cuckoo clocks. Free time to explore the town and perhaps buy a cuckoo clock. Time for lunch before visiting the Black Forest Open Air Museum where you have a guided tour and see the Black Forest farms and houses. There are 15 outbuildings such as mills, saws and storage facilities, cottage gardens, herb garden and numerous animals of old breeds. This is followed by a Black Forest cake demonstration, including coffee and cake.

Day 4 Today you travel through picturesque countryside to stop for a short while to admire the views of the Mummelsee before continuing onwards to the superb spa town of Baden-Baden, where you will spend the rest of the day exploring.

Day 5 Today you have a free day to relax and explore the area. You can take the train (free of charge with local visitor card) from the station to the beautiful town of Gengenbach to explore the old town.

Day 6 Travel to the picturesque and historic port city of Strasbourg, the capital of the region and the centre of the European Parliament. To see more of the city, you will enjoy a circular canal cruise (with English headset commentary) from downtown through to the impressive imperial district of Neustadt. Afterwards you have time for lunch and the afternoon at leisure to explore. With plenty to see and do, stroll around the old town of La Petite France with medieval houses and cobbled streets and the Gothic Cathedrale Notre-Dame. For a snapshot of Alsatian life visit one of the fascinating museums.

Day 7 Time to depart the Black Forest and head back to France and the overnight stop in Reims.

Day 8 After breakfast, depart the hotel and commence the homeward journey.
