Heart of Europe & Glacier Express Experience

Day 1 Early morning departure for Dover and the crossing to Calais. You will then travel through France to Forbach (or similar) for an overnight stop. 

Day 2 Continuing the journey on into Austria to the medieval city of Feldkirch for a five night stay. Enjoy a hot winter punch on arrival and you will be given information about the area. 

Day 3 A free day in Feldkirch. This morning you will be taken on a guided tour of the medieval city of Feldkirch with its pedestrian zone, alleyways and gothic cathedrals and the Schattenburg Castle. You will then be free to explore on your own. 

Day 4 Today you board the Matterhorn-Gotthard Railway and travel on the regional train on the original Glacier Express route from Chur to Andermatt. This incredible journey on the most famous railway in the world will remain in your memories forever. The views from the Oberalp Pass, the Rhine Gorge will keep you transfixed. 

The journey continues to the roots of Switzerland through the canton of Uri to Altdorf. Stop briefly in Altdorf to get to know the home of William Tell. Your return journey will take you past Lake Walen and Lake Lucerne back to the hotel.

Day 5 Today you will travel by way of Dornbirn and further to the snowy Bregenzerwald. Here you will enjoy a breath-taking view of the beautiful landscape of the forest. Travelling to  Hittisau where you will have a romantic sleigh ride through the snowy hillside, followed by home distilled schnapps. Your journey will continue to Schwarzenberg, where Angelika  Kauffmann, the famous painter spent her childhood, then over the Bödele for a magnificent view of Lake Constance. You will return to the hotel via Dornbirn to visit the nativity crib museum with approx. 120 different cribs in varying sizes from all over the world. 

Day 6 Today you will visit the small city of St Gallen, which used to be the heart of the Swiss textile trade. The centre is worth seeing with the big, old houses, showing the past riches of the textile trade. We have included a visit to the library of the monastery, with its famous baroque hall. Continuing the short journey down to Rorschach on the banks of Lake Constance.

Day 7 Sadly it is time to leave Feldkirch for France and to Forbach (or similar) for an overnight stop.  

Day 8 After breakfast, depart the hotel to commence the homeward journey.
