11 Day Tour- Tour Number OC011
The journey planners at Fred. Olsen have designed this cruise to visit Northern Norway to offer you the chance to see the Northern Lights when they are likely to be most active. You will have the chance to experience this natural phenomenon illuminating the night sky while ashore and from the comfort of the ship. When in Molde, experience a drive along the Atlantic Ocean Road, and after experiencing the maritime tradition of crossing the Arctic Circle, a visit to Tromso offers the opportunity to spend time with the local Sámi people to gain an insight into how they have adapted to life in the modern arctic. In Alesund, enjoy the views across the town from atop Mount Aksla.
** All Inclusive Drinks Package – relax with a drink all day, every day. Whether taking in the panoramic views of a scenic waterway in the Observatory with a glass of wine, trying the ’Cocktail of the Day’, or relaxing around the pool with a beer – you can enjoy your drink without having to worry about the bar bill at the end of your holiday
Day 1 Early morning departure for the journey north to the port in Newcastle to board the Borealis which will sail early evening. Day 2 Some of the best moments of cruising are the days spent at sea where you can relax and enjoy the wonderful programme of events and activities that have been planned for you. Day 3 Arrive in Molde early morning and depart early evening. Day 4 Today you will be crossing the Artic Circle. The Arctic Circle crosses mainland Norway at Saltfjellet at roughly 66°33’ North Latitude. During the winter months, the sun stays below the horizon for most of the day, light is provided by the moon and stars in addition to the elusive Northern Lights. Day 5 Arrive early morning to Narvik and depart late afternoon. Day 6 Sailing day. Day 7 You will arrive late evening to Tromsø. During winter, the ice-covered seas around Tromso are filled with hundreds of whales, as they go in search of food and breeding grounds. One of the main reasons they visit this area is for the abundance of herring in the waters. Tromsø is also well-known for its husky sledding, where these magnificent creatures pull sleds through the snowy countryside. It may also be possible to see the Northern Lights as they dance and flicker in the skies above northern Norway's largest city. Overnight in port. Day 8 Sailing day. Day 9 Arrive in Alesund early afternoon and depart early evening. Day 10 Sailing day. Day 11 Arrive in Newcastle early morning. Disembark the ship and commence the homeward journey. NB: Optional excursions will be sent to you from Fred. Olsen closer to the departure date and you will have to book with them.
