Day 1 Morning departure for the journey north to the Lake District and to Grange-over-Sands for a four night stay.
Day 2 A scenic drive through the picturesque Lake District to the pretty picture-postcard village of Grasmere, home to Wordsworth and where he wrote these famous words, ‘I wandered lonely as a cloud’, inspired by the flowers and scenery. Free time to enjoy this little village and make sure you visit Sarah Nelson’s Grasmere Gingerbread shop where you can buy the best gingerbread in the world. Then onto the lovely market town of Keswick, nestled between the majestic Skiddaw Mountains and Derwentwater.
Day 3 Today you are on a journey through the Leven valley aboard the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway to Lakeside. Where at the steamer pier, which was established for services along the lake, you will embark for a cruise on Windermere to Bowness, a sprawling tourist town.
Day 4 Today you will travel to Glenridding for a cruise on Ullswater with stunning views from all angles. Afterwards you will head to Kendal and to Sizergh House and Gardens, home to the Strickland family for over 750 years. Most of the castle dates from 15th – 18th century, except the 14th century 60 ft tower. The gardens contain the Trust’s largest limestone rock garden.
Day 5 After breakfast, depart the hotel and commence the homeward journey.a
