Sunday Breakaway Bridgend

Day 1 Morning departure for the journey west and over the Prince of Wales Bridge into Cymru and St Fagans National Museum of History near Cardiff, where you will explore the history through people’s everyday lives. The museum stands in the grounds of the magnificent St Fagans Castle and gardens, a late 16th-century manor house donated to the people of Wales by the Earl of Plymouth. The gardens are perhaps the best-kept secret at St Fagans, from those of the gentry to the cottage gardens that provided food for working families. They give a real insight into the lives of Welsh people throughout history and complement the historic buildings in their interpretation of the past. Depart and journey to Bridgend for the overnight stay.

Day 2 After breakfast, depart the hotel and travel to Llantrisant to learn about the manufacturing process that goes into creating the coins in your pocket at the Royal Mint Experience. You will have a guided tour about all the different methods that are taken to ensure that their extraordinary coins are amongst the most secure in the world. You will learn all about the machinery used. During the tour you will be given the opportunity to strike your own coin to take it home with you. There will be a small charge for this because you can’t expect the government to give away free money! The exhibition area is home to some of the most important and historical artefacts in the 1,100-year history of the Royal Mint. Time for you to look around the gift shop and grab a light lunch from the café before departing at 13.00 hours to commence the homeward journey with a comfort stop en route.
